If your workplace is considered "safety-sensitive," your employer may require you to get a DOT physical either before or during work. The Department of Transportation, or DOT, is an organization whose work has an effect on both public and individual safety. In order to make sure they are physically fit before beginning work, federal law mandates that a DOT physical be completed. To guarantee they are in good enough health to function properly, anyone who overwatches authority or works in a public context, such an airline attendant or commercial truck driver, must pass a test.
Many factors are covered in a DOT physical to make sure the worker is truly fit for duty. Blood pressure, eyesight, and hearing are evaluated appropriately during a physical examination. An eye exam will be performed on you to check for normal eye movement and dilation. It is the appropriate moment to inform your doctor and employer that you have macular degeneration if you do. We will also check for anomalies in your hearing.
